Tim vs Aging – Day 52 – Alternative to Weight Training, plus ‘Experimental Design’

I bought a couch, dark teal sectional, in perfect condition. Wrangled my nephew and a U-Haul to go get it. In case you are wondering where this is going, I decided to do this rather than go to Youfit for the weight training session. I think they ended up being about equal.

I originally didn’t realize that it featured a fold-out sleeper in one section and a recliner in another. These were quite heavy. Carrying them through the seller’s house, out around their pool and through the alley to the truck was one side of it, and then through the bushes and around into my house, the other side.

I was sweating like a pig, so I’m thinking this effort was almost the equal to my Youfit routine. By contrast, my old sectional, with no recliner, no foldout bed and some of the stuffing missing was very light as we carried it to the curb. With the waiting, the rescheduling, the traffic and the distance, this unfortunately consumed most of the day, so I skipped Youfit.

I wanted to present this particular article because it applies to the Tim vs. Aging project. It is indeed a “Single-case experimental design.”

Unfortunately, I did not see this before the project began, but it is worth a read if you decide to do your own study of anti-aging interventions. It provides structure and detail for such an effort.

But there are a couple of problems with this. First, it is too elaborate and technical for the average person. The trouble and detail required to produce a peer-reviewed technical paper are likely ten times what an experimenter needs to measure results.

Second, most people in search of an anti-aging solution will not be patient enough to limit their variables to a single supplement. In Tim vs. Aging, I selected supplements, exercises and other processes that I thought would be complementary.

Third, it will be almost impossible to isolate the effects of any single contributing factor to the project. Scientists love to have an isolated factor, with a large baseline data set to reduce noise factors. But to do this with each factor would take years.

But since Tim vs. Aging Phase II is going to begin in a week or so, I’ll be reviewing this thoroughly to see if I can improve my data collection.

Former UFC heavyweight Champ Andre Arlosvky. I will be calling him out soon!!

Will this help me defeat former UFC Champion Ander Arlovsky in single combat?  YES! The scientific method is more powerful than any single man. My victory is assured…
