Build Your Immune System to Increase Longevity

Getting and maintaining a healthy immune system is vital to your longevity. Your ability to resist diseases naturally grows weaker with aging. It can lead to health complications that can shorten your life. Building your immune system and keeping it strong for as long as you can will help ensure a longer life.

Even if you maintain a younger look but do not enjoy good health, you know that having good health is important to your quality of life. Several things are known to weaken your immune system, and you want to avoid them when possible.

After all, your health is essential to having a more enjoyable life – and it is one of the best things you can possess.

There are two reasons why your immune system grows weaker with age. The first is because your body produces fewer T-cells, which are the primary force in fighting infections and diseases.

A second reason is that your body loses some of its ability to absorb minerals and vitamins needed for better health. Using some supplements can often help this deficiency – which you may not be able to fully obtain from diet alone.

The things you eat every day – your diet – are strongly associated with the strength of your immune system. Much of its strength comes from the bacteria in your gut. Dietary fiber helps strengthen the bacteria in your gut by producing short-chain fatty acids, which enables them to function best to defeat threats.

Building your immune system to increase longevity will not occur by accident. You must take deliberate steps to do so. It means avoiding some things and adding some things for longer life.

The things to avoid include the following:

  • A lack of regular exercise
  • A poor diet
  • Being overweight
  • Not controlling diabetes and cholesterol
  • Some medications
  • Poor sleep habits
  • Alcohol and tobacco
  • Illegal drugs
  • A lack of regular doctor visits
  • Poor dental care.

Another problem that a lack of the above things can lead to early on is dementia. Keeping your mind active and engaged can help slow and possibly even prevent dementia.

It is rather easy to determine if you have a weak immune system. The signs may include:

  • Frequent stomach issues – diarrhea, constipation, gas
  • Slow-healing wounds
  • Easily catch colds
  • Often have infections
  • Tired much of the time.

One frequent cause of a weak immune system is stress. Constant stress reduces the number of white blood cells in your body, and they are a line of defense your body needs to fight off infections. Other causes of a weak immune system include alcohol, sugary drinks, salty foods, fried foods, and processed meats.

Adding several supplements to boost immune system to your diet will help provide good immune support. They include vitamin C and D, Zinc, protein, omega-3, and probiotics. Adding a daily multivitamin will also help add some vitamins and minerals that may be lacking in your diet.

Taking steps now to ensure a healthy immune system will increase your longevity. Be sure to add those things mentioned above that are often missing which can lead to a shorter lifespan. Seeing a doctor regularly can also help you control illnesses and reduce their impact on your health.
